For Diana Fairfax, opening Fairfax Acne and Dermatology Services was a lifelong dream fueled by her passion for helping patients, especially teens, overcome the emotional toll of acne. Since opening her practice two years ago, it has flourished, becoming a trusted source of personalized and effective acne care.

Diana began her career in Dartmouth, Mass., later expanding to North Attleboro and East Providence, building a loyal following of patients willing to travel for her expertise. With a clear vision and dedication to acne treatment, she eventually opened her own practice in East Providence. At her clinic, Diana goes beyond treating acne — she crafts personalized plans by getting to know each patient’s lifestyle, family history, and past treatments. For instance, patients who struggle with a routine may benefit from a once-daily product, and understanding how acne affects self-esteem is crucial, especially for teens who may need urgent care due to emotional distress.

“I’ve always had a special connection to acne care,” says Diana, “While I still perform skin cancer screenings and general dermatology, acne and acne-like conditions are my passion.”

Increasingly her referrals are from acne patients seeking a second opinion. These are being driven by her five-star Google reviews. She is proud to say that 100 percent of the patients who have self-referred for second opinions have stayed.

One of the standout features of her practice is blue light therapy. This FDA-approved treatment is a cornerstone of her practice, providing a non-invasive option that accelerates healing and reduces acne more effectively than traditional methods. It is a 20-minute procedure that reduces the activity of the oil glands. “The results are clear, and it has been a game-changer,” Diana explains. She attributes Blue Light Therapy to the major reason why she has not needed to prescribe oral antibiotics. The detrimental effects of oral antibiotics on gut health can last for years.

Another exciting aspect of her practice is the treatment of acne scars. The old red marks from acne pimples are not scars, she explains. A true scar is a depression in the skin. She offers prescription medications and microdermabrasion on turbo setting as the mainstay of treatment. She has also just completed a study with a well known national company. She initiated contact because of unique properties the serum promoted. She wondered if it could help acne scarring. The company agreed that it was worth looking into and funded a study to find out.

One of the key aspects of Diana’s practice is her commitment to keeping treatments affordable. Many of her patients are teens or young adults who may not have the financial resources for expensive treatments. Unlike other practices that charge flat fees, Diana structures her pricing based on the percentage of the face that needs treatment, helping lower costs for patients. It is not uncommon for her to throw in a free facial or serum if she feels patients might not be able to afford it.

As her practice continues to grow, Diana remains committed to expanding access to acne care. She envisions offering free care to underserved youth in the future, ensuring that no one has to struggle with acne without access to proper treatment. With her unwavering dedication to helping people, the future looks bright for those seeking compassionate, effective acne care.
